Summary of Other Policies Relevant to Student Participation in Research Activities

There are numerous Stanford policies governing the conduct of research. Stanford faculty must engage graduate students involved in research in a thorough and open discussion of these policies, ensuring an understanding of the following:

• Health and Safety requirements, including emergency procedures and all regulations for handling, storage and disposal of toxic materials
• Academic authorship
• Nondiscrimination in foreign-sponsored research agreements
• Intellectual property
• Relationships with outside companies
• Use of human subjects or laboratory animals in research
• Openness in research.
